Tiered Baby Shower Cake
First I made a batch of Fondant and Gumpaste and mixed them together. (This allows you make figures that hold their shapes well) I then colored the the fondat/gumpaste the appropriate colors using color gel.
Then I began making the baby, bear, pillow and blanket. I did this a couple days in advance to give them time to dry a bit before placing them on the cake. Then I made two layers each of a 10", 8" and 6" cake. Once they layers were cooling I made some whipped icing.
After the layers were completely cooled, I filled and frosted them with the icing. The flowers and clothing were then made with the fondant/gumpaste. The reason I did not make the clothing and flowers in advance with the baby and bear is because I wanted them to still be soft and pliable so I can properly form them to the sides of the cake without them cracking.
The clothing line and the grass is made from icing that I colored to the appropriate colors once again using color gel. The clothing and flowers were then gently pressed into place. Once the tiers were assembled, I then delicately place the baby, on his pillow at the top tier and gently covered him with the blanket then placing his bear friend along side of him.
