Kids Trampolines
Buying The Trampoline That's Right For You
Kids trampolines have been long time favorites, even I recall as a kid having friends who had a trampoline- we could never think up enough reasons to go and play at their house! Whether it's that feeling of lightness and freedom, the thought of flying like a bird, or for my one year old the love of gently being bounced up and down on the side of the trampoline (supported by mom) while an older child reaches great heights... there's definitely something about trampolines that kids love.
You can buy kids trampolines starting from toddler age right up to trampolines that can be used by parents and kids alike. You'll find a huge selection of shapes and sizes to fit whatever space you have available, whether it's for indoors or outside. This guide aims to educate you on the choices out there, address safety concerns and generally help you to make an informed purchase rather than just buying the first kids trampoline that you come across. More on Trampoline Accessories... Toddlers Kids trampolines that are aimed at the toddler age group generally come with a handle (sometimes detachable) which provides a support for your child to grab on to while they are bouncing. There are models available with familiar characters that even have music and sounds to keep toddlers entertained. This style is really only suited to preschoolers as by the time your kids reach school they will be wanting to bounce without hanging onto anything. An alternative for younger kids is a six foot round trampoline which is still small enough to be used inside or out but will generally maintain their interest for longer. **TIP- Important for children under the age of six is that they are constantly supervised while trampolining.
Older Kids Older kids have a much greater range of options available to them so we'll start with a look at the shapes of trampoline that are available. Your backyard may restrict the style of trampoline you purchase. You will need 6 feet clear of each side of the trampoline for safety. More safety tips... Which Shape When choosing a shape for your trampoline keep the following points in mind- Round trampolines are designed to keep the bouncer in the centre and are good for novices. Round models can vary from a 6-foot diameter up to a 16-foot diameter.
Rectangular trampolines allow for a greater jumping area and are better for those interested in gymnastics, they provide the highest bounce of all trampolines. Sizes for rectangular trampolines start from 8x8 foot and go right up to 14x16 foot with plenty of variations in between.
Square trampolines- have similar properties to rectangular trampolines but not as high a bounce.
**TIP- Don't buy or set up a trampoline until you've read our Trampolining Assembly and Safety Guide.
