Halloween Party Ideas
Decorating, Invitations and Party Games
We have a huge range of Halloween party ideas- from decorating, easy party recipes, games for the kids and even invitations.
When choosing a party theme younger children may be put off by tombstones, ghouly monsters and frightening witches so keep the theme Halloweenish without frightening the pants off them! Pumpkins, friendly ghosts, fall themes and pirates are safe for younger kids. Once you have decided on your party theme, you can get down to the decorations and the party food and games.
The invitations will generally reflect the mood of the party, so if you are going for a pumpkin or pirates theme be sure to match your invitations to the party.
Decorations
Decorating your house can follow the theme that you set with your Halloween party invitations. For decorations here are couple of simple Halloween party ideas that will thrill the kids and not take up too much of your time.
Cheesecloth Ghosts We have two different Halloween party ideas here both using inexpensive cheesecloth. The first are a little fiddly but give a superb result which can be kept for future Halloweens. The Floating Ghosts are much easier and will really excite the younger kids. To keep the ghostly theme, you can cover your furniture with white sheets. The mood can be completed by synthetic cobwebs and pipecleaner spiders.
Materials Cheesecloth Fabric stiffner or PVA/white glue Googly eyes Balloons Nylon thread
First, blow up the balloons and sit them in drinking glasses; this will provide a form for you to mold the ghosts around. Cut squares about 12-14" of double layers of cheesecloth. Dilute the fabric stiffener/glue 1:1 with water and dip the cheesecloth squares into the glue mixture. Wring out the excess and drape the cheesecloth over the balloon in a ghostly shape. You can have the ghost's hemline trail on the table for a standup ghost, or you can have a sheer drop for a flying ghost. Allow the ghosts to dry overnight. When dry, remove the balloons, glue on the googly eyes and attach nylon thread to the heads of any ghosts you want to hang. Hang the flying ghosts wherever appropriate! The standup ghosts can stand on a table while your guests try to work out how they stand up!
Floating Ghosts
Materials Cheesecloth Helium Filled Balloons Nylon Thread
Start with a piece of cheesecloth 2 yards long and 1 yard wide. Place a helium filled balloon (white is best) in the middle of the fabric and gather loosely around balloon. Draw a face or features on the cloth with a felt pen. You can put some ghosts in a box and when people open the box they will float up and scare everyone! Or, you can place them on string in front of an open window or a fan and watch them gently float in the breeze.
**TIP- Another great way to give a festive theme without it being too dark and creepy is to use fairy/party lights. They come in white or colored lengths and are safer around young children than masses of candles.
Pumpkins Pumpkins are an essential part of your Halloween decorations but the extent to which you use them only ends with your imagination. Here's a few child friendly pumpkin Halloween party ideas.
The littlies can still help out with the pumpkin carving without needing to get near a knife. Put them in charge of being the scoopers, removing all the flesh and seeds from the pumpkin. They can even get the job of separating the seeds from the flesh so that the seeds can be roasted for a yummy savory snack. Your pumpkins can also be painted and decorated using fake hair, googly eyes, stickers or markers.
Another way of decorating your house with pumpkins is to cut out or buy pumpkin sponges and decorate them with glitter and sparkles and hang them around the house. Great teamed up with fairy lights as they will glitter even more!
