Harvest Bread
You'll Need 300g/12oz plain flour pinch of salt 1/2 sachet quick-action dried yeast (3.5 grams) 1 dessert spoon vegetable/sunflower oil 210ml/3/8 pint warm water Glaze 1 egg 1/4 teaspoon water Separate egg, keeping the yolk. Mix with water using a fork and brush onto bread before baking. Method Set your oven at 425F/220 C. Sift the flour and add the yeast and salt. Make a well in the centre and pour the warm water and oil into the centre. Mix into a firm dough, adding a little more water or flour if the consistency is too dry or sticky. Place the dough onto a floured surface and have some fun kneading it for 5 minutes. Now we can make either a plait or a wheatsheaf. Refer to the pictures below for instructions.

Wheatsheaf
Once you have finished your design brush it with the egg yolk glaze. Get mom or dad to carefully place your bread onto a greased baking tray and bake for 15-20 minutes, until golden brown. Tap the bread to see if it sounds hollow - this way you'll know that it's properly cooked! Cool on a wire tray.Either of these will make a great centrepiece for your Thanksgiving table. Pecan Pie This Thanksgiving recipe is really easy, especially if you cheat a little like me, and buy a ready made pastry for the base! It is prepared in one bowl so the kids can be chief stirrers.
You'll Need Base 150g/60g plain flour 75g/3oz margarine 4 tablespoons cold water Filling 4 large eggs 225g/8oz real maple syrup 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon 25g/1oz butter (melted) 1/2 teaspoon vanilla essence 100g pecans (can use walnuts) 4 extra nuts for decoration Method Set oven at 375 F/190 C. For the base, sift the flour and cut cubes of margarine into the flour. Rub until crumbly and now sprinkle the water over the mixture and use a round-edged knife to mix. Add more water if necessary. Sprinkle a little flour over the surface and roll flat. Grease a 9 inch pie dish and gently place the pastry in, pressing down with fingers. Trim the edge with a knife and place in a cool location. For the filling, melt the butter in a saucepan. While you are doing this all of the other ingredients, except the nuts can be mixed together in a bowl. Now add the melted butter and stir until the mixture is smooth and light brown in appearance. Spread the nuts evenly over the unbaked pie crust and pour the mixture over the nuts. Save the final four nuts to decorate the centre of the pie and bake for 30 minutes until it is firm. This pie can be served warm or cold with cream or ice-cream. Yummy! (Yes, the kids will love licking the bowl!)
