Argggg and Yummm Pirate Cake

Arggg & Yummm Pirate Treasure Cake

Arggg & Yummm Pirate Treasure Cake

I baked using a regular cake mix, putting 3/4 of the batter into one baking pan (9x9) and 1/4 into another baking pan (9x9). I put the baked cake into the fridge to harden a bit (approx 2 hours) as this makes it easier to work with.

I cut the larger pan of cake in half and stacked those two halves for the bottom of the chest. I then iced these with chocolate icing. I then cut the other pan of cake into halves, stacked the pieces and cut a piece of cardboard for these to lie on. Once they were lying on the cardboard, I then iced these and carefully propped the "lid" (cardboard with cake on top) open on the cake with wooden kabob skewers or chopsticks.

Once the cake is fully iced, you can decorate the cake with candy coins, rolo candies, candy necklaces, and crystallized candy. If placed carefully, the skewers or chopsticks are hidden. This cake is fit for any Pirate or Pirate Princess!

I really like this cake, and it doesn't look so hard that I can't have a go at doing it myself!
